Alkan Telecom successfully deploys City–Wide Wireless Traffic Surveillance Network in Cairo

Cairo, February, 2007. Traffic Police to view and record video surveillance cameras from across the city Alkan Telecom, a major solution and services provider and a recognized regional systems integrator, has recently implemented a major wireless surveillance Solution for use of the Traffic Police within the city of Cairo. Connecting High Resolution Video Cameras through surveillance equipment from Telindus Surveillance Solutions (TSS) over Pre-Wimax wireless broadband network from Redline Communications Inc., Alkan Telecom was able to provide remote video from across the city of Cairo to centralized control rooms for viewing, recording, and connecting police across major metropolitan areas. Alkan Telecom has also successfully integrated the Geographical Information System (GIS) provided by ESRI Northeast Africa and the digital maps supplied by QSIT its sister company, to provide live situational maps. Alkan Telecom as an experienced solutions integrator in co-operation with its business partners, began rolling out wireless equipment in urban centers throughout Egypt and other Middle East countries, enabling police and security agencies to transmit time and security-sensitive surveillance video, GIS, and vehicle tracking information to command and control centers. The market for network-based video surveillance is growing rapidly throughout the world and Alkan Telecom is providing the right solution for different customer applications in transportation, city centers, defense and other sectors. There are great opportunities for Alkan to replicate this project in markets throughout the Middle East and North Africa in the near future. Ahmed Abdel Aal, Managing Director of Alkan Telecom declared that Alkan Telecom has long working relationships with Redline, Telindus and ESRI providing wireless network surveillance solutions into the Egyptian market. “When we were first introduced to the new surveillance/wireless/GIS products portfolio, we could spot tremendous deployment opportunities in Egypt and other regional countries. “TSS can provide us with the high quality MPEG codec that is suitable for wireless transmission, software management and network- based recording solution meeting our requirements” stated Abdel-Aal. “After a thorough review of the wireless broadband technologies available today, we selected Redline products for the delivery of the advanced services and applications demanded by our customers,” stated Alaa Adel Khalil, Business Development Director of Alkan Telecom. “GIS is increasingly being deployed in command and control applications, integrating GIS with the surveillance systems leverage the location component to produce live situational maps which lead to better efficiency in emergency response.” declared Tarek Wahby, QSIT, deputy managing director. Alkan Telecom designs and deploys easy-to-manage and quick-to-configure broadband wireless network surveillance systems that support the secure and immediate delivery of critical, time sensitive voice, video and data communications over large areas in a wide range of environments.
